Is Diablo III Coming To Nintendo Switch?
Last week, Blizzard set its community ablaze on Twitter after making a teaser about a Diablo game on Nintendo Switch. The news about the insinuation was quickly spread around but the company claims it was “meant to be a fun community engagement piece” and that the company has “nothing to announce” regarding the series coming to Switch.
The rumors kicked off last week with a tweet from Blizzard showing a Diablo-themed nightlight being switched on and off. Many thought of this as a teaser for the game being ported to the extremely popular Nintendo Switch. It was immediately followed by a whirlwind of speculations, and an article from Eurogamer claiming that a source has confirmed the port.
When contacted for this report, a Blizzard spokesperson had said that the company had no new statement to add. With the runaway success of the Nintendo Switch since it launched a year ago, AAA publishers have been working to bring their library of games to the system. Bethesda was among the first to do so with games like Skyrim and Doom releasing last autumn, and Ubisoft even announced a port of its extreme sports game Steep.
Eurogamer claims the project is “very much in production,” but that its sources would not confirm whether the game’s “Reaper of Souls” and “Rise of the Necromancer” expansions will be included.
According to Eurogamer, the Switch port announcement is currently “several months off.”
The gaming news outlet’s sources didn’t include whether the Switch port would include the Reaper of Souls and Rise of the Necromancer expansions, so we’ll likely have to wait for confirmation from Blizzard or Nintendo on the existence of the port before we can ascertain any more details.
So, if Blizzard’s making Diablo for Switch, will it port other games to Nintendo’s console? Fingers crossed for Hearthstone.
